Giving children and young people the literacy skills to succeed in life

Description

Children from long-term disadvantaged communities start falling behind before they even start school. By the time they reach their GCSEs they are years behind their peers. Literacy is key to employment opportunities and can have a life-changing impact on mental wellbeing and health outcomes. But in 2024, only 1 in 2 children from disadvantaged communities left school with a good pass in English GCSE, the key to future employment, compared with 7 in 10 of their non-disadvantaged peers.

We are committed to ensuring that every young person has the literacy skills they need to fulfil their potential.
We do this by:

 • Running literacy projects in communities and schools
 • Providing essential books and resources for those who have none at home
 • Training and supporting teachers’ professional development
